Dragon Boating for Schools

Newcastle Dragon Boat Club is proud to offer exciting opportunities for school groups to experience the thrill of dragon boating! Students aged 12 years and older can participate in fun and engaging Come and Try sessions, where they will be introduced to the basic skills and techniques of dragon boating in a supportive and safe environment. These sessions are perfect for building teamwork, fitness, and confidence while enjoying the unique challenge of this dynamic water sport.

We are also proud to support the Australian Dragon Boat Federation’s (AusDBF) Dracademy initiative. The program teaches students the basic skills of Dragon Boating through a range of activities, games and challenges. We offer program as for Years 7 – 8, with a look to expanding to Years 9 – 10 in the future. The program comprises a series of sessions designed to afford students the opportunity to learn paddling techniques, understand the importance of teamwork, and develop leadership and participation skills with a number of different exercises which also concentrate on the development of resilience, endurance and strength. Coaches are specifically selected for their ability to work with young people and training is provided to coaches to make sure they have the resources and confidence to run these programs.

Dracademy is a great way to begin a dragon boat program within a school environment, to gauge interest and get students excited about the sport of dragon boating.

Schools interested in participating in the Dracademy initiative should get in touch with the person at AusDBF responsible for the Schools Program at schools@ausdbf.com.au

Schools can apply for funding through the ‘Sporting Schools Program’ through the Australian Sports Commission, by contacting support@sportingschools.com.au, or by phone on 1300 785 707, making it easier to bring this enriching experience to their students.
